You will learn about:
- Understanding the necessity of energy storage (short-term, mid-term, seasonal) for stationary applications and mobile applications as well as their technical and economic requirements.
- Basic knowledge of different energy storage technologies such as pumped-hydro, SuperCaps, batteries, and thermal storage systems, as well as hydrogen and Power-to-Gas (PtG) solutions
- Knowledge in the design and components of different types of battery cells such as lead-acid, Ni-based batteries (alkaline), lithium-ion, sodium-ion technologies etc.
- Knowledge in the design of thermal storage systems
- Knowledge in the design of hydrogen storage and PtG systems

The lecture includes exercises to deepen the understanding of the lecture's content and to discuss further details.
Batteries and supercapacitors: Materials, components and cell concepts

You will learn about:
After completing this module, the students will have solid insight into batteries and supercapacitors energy storage cells. The module addresses the current status of research on materials (i.e., electrodes, electrolytes, binders, additives) and other cells components of Li-ion batteries, post-lithium batteries (Na, K, Zn, Mg, Ca, Al batteries) and supercapacitors (double-layer, pseudocapacitors and hybrids). This knowledge will provide a solid background on established and future energy storage technologies.
In addition, the presentation of a scientific research topic to the class audience will be practiced and discussed in a seminar form. This training will further develop critical thinking on scientific research topics.
Students will be able to communicate and summarize key points from and scientific articles on batteries and supercapacitors topics.
